"Coaches you don't know me I am from the first Soccer team at El Cap in 1973.   I wish you well in your last game .  Please tell the boys to fight hard and leave it all on the field.  Let me explain.  The first year of our team we had a big uphill battle the whole way.  Most of the District thought we were all a bunch of Cowboys and they wanted to stomp us .  We had to earn respect every inch of the way , even from our own school principal.  Right before the season started he told us we could not play because we could not use the football field.  We told him we would find our own field. Later he told us that he was cancelling the team because there was no money to pay for uniforms or buses to the games.   A bunch of us one morning marched into his office and surrounded his desk and said 'look , we are playing for El Cap even if its in our underwear and we will drive our own cars!!'
He looked us all over and said nothing because he knew we meant business.  Every team we played soon learned of our aggressive style.  We were fighting hard for respect every inch of the way.  We came off the field with bloody noses and knees but you should have seen them.  We did not have many wins but there was not a team that didnt respect us.  The colors of our Uniform Black and Gold now stood for something, Courage , fighting spirit, and Heart.   Tell the players to wear the El Cap Uniform means something.  Tell them to leave a legacy for the guys behind them.  Win or lose --- leave it all on the field.  If the other team trash talks you---- keep your mouth shut and do your talkin on the field.
If you think no one cares about your game--- think again!!!   We never had one spectator in the stands but we fought on anyway.  You are creating a LEGACY FOR OTHERS TO FOLLOW.   Fight hard and you will respect yourself more and your opponent will respect you too.  Fear no opponent. Dont worry about your picture in the paper or year book .... just leave a legacy of courage for others to follow.
Look --- some of us have since left this life from the first team--- but dont be surprised if some of us are up in the stands cheering you on . You may not see them but they are watching.
Now go out and get em Vaqueros!!!"
